From medieval roots to thermal discoveries

The first traces of settlement associated with the Lusatian culture testify to the long history of the area, where archaeological findings confirm the presence of populations as early as the Neolithic and Bronze Age. A key development took place in the 13th century, when a settlement initially known as Marcelová was established on the Marcel estate - given by King Belo IV. In the 14th century, Gregor, known as Bessenyo, who played an important role as the Comes of the Hungarian Piecings, gave the village a name that has survived to the present day.

The following centuries brought both economic and architectural development. Residents farmed, worked in the distillery and quarry, and the construction of a Renaissance manor house, later baroqueized, is a lasting witness to the changing eras. A turning point in Bešeňová's modern history came in 1987 with the discovery of thermal water springs, which sparked the dynamic development of the spa complex.
